The Turkish Australian Culture House Inc, on behalf of the Turkish Consulate of Western Australia, will be holding the 3rd Biennial "Republic Ball" on Saturday the 2nd of November at the Rendezvous Grand Hotel in Scarborough.
This year, the Republic Ball will be celebrating 90 years since the founding of the Republic of Turkey in 1923.
Over 260 members of the Western Australian Turkish community and friends of the Turkish Community are expected to attend, to celebrate the achievements of Turkey, Turkish citizens in Western Australia, and to promote harmonious relations with the wider Australian community.
Attending the Gala Ball will special guests Hon Dr Mike Nahan MLA, Minister for Energy, Finance, Citizenship and Multicultural Interests; Mr Peter Bruce Watson MLA, Member for Albany, Australian Labor Party; FLTLT Gavin Briggs JP member of RSL WA State Executive, Representing the State President, RSL; Mr. Frank Crawley, Hon. Consul General Sri Lanka Vice Dean, Consular Corps; Mrs Margaret Hall, President, International Business Council WA.
Guests will be entertained by Melbourne Turkish Band "Grup Ezgi" and traditional Turkish dancing and art exhibitions.
The Republic Ball is expected to set the tone for more Turkish cultural events by the Turkish Australian Culture House Inc and the Turkish Consulate of Western Australia over the coming year, leading into the 100 year anniversary of the Gallipoli landing and the 2015 "Year of Turkey in Australia" as proclaimed by the former Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard.
